HP Project Management comes with out-of-the-box 'best practice request types and workflows that can be used as-is or copied and customized to match your business process.
The Project Process workflow provides a basic outline of the stages of a project.
If the Portfolio Management Module has been licensed there is a much more elaborate PFM - Project workflow.

Default workflow steps
1. Proposal Review. This is a quick review of the initial request to determine if it even warrants going through the proposal process.
1. In Planning. The project is being planned.
2. Active. The project is in its execution phase.
3. On Hold. The project is on hold. This step can be reached from the "Active" or "In Planning" steps.
4. Complete. The project is complete.
Customization
 | This is a very-bare-bones workflow. If you are considering major extensions to customize it to your own process you should look carefully at the more extensive Portfolio workflows. |
 | Customization typically involves adding or removing steps, and changing step names, notifications and security groups (the people who can act on each step). |
