The retirement of the 'Kintana' brand name and it's successive replacement with the 'Mercury IT Governance' and 'HP PPM (Project and Porfolio Management) brand names creates problems when doing web searches. The 'Kintana' brand name has achieved wide recognition, and used either as a unique term or ancilliary term, searches for 'Kintana' return highly relevant result sets. The 'Mercury ITG' and 'HP PPM' brand names are much weaker. Searching Then In October 2004 I ran the Google keyword or exact phrase searches shown below. The results are instructive:
Cross checking citations on the cmcrossroads site confirmed Kintana - Mercury ITG brand name usage in about the same ratio (117 to 11 results). Searching Now In November 2007, 15 months after HP acquired Mercury and re-re-branded the product I ran an adwords campaign with the keywords below: ![]() The clear implication is that the the market continues to use the 'Kintana' brand name as a single distinctive term to identify the Mercury ITG / HP PPM product lines. The corollary is that marketing departments simply do not get the web. Search strategies Your first choice for locating information on the web should be the 'kintana' keyword, supplemented as required by exact phases for specific products. If you intend to search using the newer brand names then your best bets are exact phrases. For example : "HP PPM" or "Mercury ITG" combined with product names e.g.: "Portfolio Management" or "Mercury Program Management" Google™ is a trademark of Google Inc.
